Daniel Ricciardo<\/a> has admitted that he is still struggling to master McLaren\u2019s 2021 challenger, saying he immediately knew that it was a \u201cdifferent beast\u201d to the Renault he raced with last season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Australian driver joined McLaren<\/a> from the French works team at the end of 2020, and he has been comprehensively outpaced by Lando Norris<\/a> at most of the grand prix contested so far this campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an interview this week, Ricciardo said he is still trying to solve the puzzle of the \u201cpeculiar\u201d McLaren MCL35M.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI knew straight away it was a different beast,\u201d he said in an interview with The Race<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019d be lying if I said the Renault wasn\u2019t a different beast to the Red Bull, so they are all different. But there\u2019s certainly some things where this car is slightly more peculiar. That\u2019s the puzzle that I\u2019m still trying to solve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut every car will respond and react differently, and this one\u2019s got a couple of other things, I guess,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
