Enzo Fittipaldi has left the Ferrari Driver Academy<\/a> to pursue a racing opportunity in the US, the Brazilian driver announced this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fittipaldi, grandson of double F1 Champion Emerson Fittipaldi, will compete in the Indy Pro 2000 Championship with Andretti Autosport and RP Motorsport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a result of this move, he will no longer have ties to Scuderia Ferrari via its young driver programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Commenting on the switch, Fittipaldi said: \u201cI am very happy to announce that I will be racing in the Indy Pro 2000 series for Andretti\/RP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWith the move to the USA, I can no longer continue in the Ferrari Driver Academy. I have no words to say how grateful I am for all the support the FDA has provided me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI take all this learning with me and I want to thank each of the Ferrari members for helping me to develop as a driver and as a person!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFull push in 2021! I am sure this is a step forward to reaching my goal of racing in F1 and IndyCar!\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a subsequent interview<\/a>, the 19-year-old emphasised that he is still ultimately aiming to compete in Formula One despite moving to the US for the time being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am very happy to announce my trip to the United States in a championship as competitive as the Indy Pro 2000, which is one of the main categories on the already established path of \u2018Road to Indy\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut I want to make it clear that I still dream of Formula 1 and, as we saw with the career of my brother Pietro and drivers like Michael Andretti, Juan Pablo Montoya, Jacques Villeneuve, Sebastian Bourdais and many others in the past, there are many paths to reach there,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
