Browse the latest F1 job vacancies<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ex-Formula 1 driver Martin Brundle seemed to recognise that Leclerc was attempting a one-stop strategy fairly early on in the race, as the 26-year-old put up very little fight against either Hamilton or Verstappen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLeclerc was a day late and a dollar short on that defence,&#8221; Brundle said, whilst commentating for Sky Sports F1. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leclerc was just trying to nurse his tyres; however, the two-stop strategy was significantly quicker. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This resulted in Carlos Sainz overtaking Leclerc for P4, with the Spaniard having been put on the ideal two-stop strategy by Ferrari. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leclerc was infuriated by this given that he was put on the riskier strategy, despite having started from pole position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He complained over the radio and insisted that it&#8217;d be discussed behind-the-scenes after the race. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even Sergio Perez managed to get past Leclerc, who crossed the line in P5. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the end, Leclerc&#8217;s efforts were for absolutely nothing, as he was disqualified from the race. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Random post-race checks discovered that the floor of his SF-23 didn&#8217;t meet the technical regulations, neither did Hamilton&#8217;s. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both drivers were disqualified as a result, rubbing salt in the wound for Leclerc. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Charles <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Leclerc?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Leclerc<\/a> \u2018happy\u2019 with Max <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Verstappen?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Verstappen<\/a> aggression <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/alQrUWuxRJ\">https:\/\/t.co\/alQrUWuxRJ<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Formula1News.co.uk (@Formula1newsUK) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Formula1newsUK\/status\/1716144374931697672?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 22, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>READ: <a href=\"https:\/\/formula1news.co.uk\/red-bull-break-silence-on-replacing-sergio-perez-with-fernando-alonso\/\">Red Bull break silence on replacing Sergio Perez with Fernando Alonso<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Given how strong Leclerc looked over one-lap at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA), the fact he was given a weaker strategy by Ferrari does raise eyebrows. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It became clear very early in the race that a one-stop strategy wouldn&#8217;t work, with tyre degradation having been particularly high. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ferrari ultimately left it too late to switch to a one-stop, meaning that questions will once again be asked regarding their strategic management. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Charles Leclerc&#8217;s United States Grand Prix couldn&#8217;t have gone any worse on Sunday, despite the fact he started on pole position.
