Amidst swirling rumours suggesting a potential retirement announcement at his home grand prix in Mexico, Sergio Perez has firmly dismissed any such notions, asserting his determination to continue competing in Formula 1. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The speculations have been fuelled by a recent form slump, alongside suggestions that he might step away from the sport to spend more time with his young family, despite his existing 2024 contract as Max Verstappen’s teammate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former Formula 1 driver Giedo van der Garde addressed the speculations, stating, “Rumours are rumours.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He elaborated on the situation during the DRS De Race Show podcast this week, adding, “He’s still relatively young. If I were him, I would keep going. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOn the other hand, the mental aspect also plays a role now. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe question is whether Perez can still handle the pressure.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The notion of Perez’s retirement has gained traction due to his recent form struggles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nevertheless, Red Bull boasts a plethora of driver choices, further complicating the situation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daniel Ricciardo’s return from injury has pushed the promising rookie Liam Lawson to the 2024 bench, emphasising the intense competition within the team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lawson, 21, expressed his eagerness to secure a racing contract, remarking, “There’s always so much talk, and no matter how positive people are or what they’re saying, I don’t think I’ll be satisfied until I have a racing contract in my hand.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reflecting on his journey, he added, “Two months ago, I was definitely not being considered for Formula 1, and to be honest, it felt like it was starting to slip away a little bit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd I think now with this opportunity, that’s really helped that, and at least maybe there’s an opportunity in the future.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Ricciardo prepares to make his return from a five-race absence due to a broken hand, van der Garde emphasised the significance of his performance. “He’ll need to be right there,” said the Dutchman. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Admittedly, Ricciardo hasn’t driven many kilometres this year, but he does have the experience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI expect him to be close to (Yuki) Tsunoda, but above all, he must make his return with humility. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe has to show what he can do on the track.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the Red Bull team has a range of potential driver options, van der Garde suggested that they should consider bringing former protege Alex Albon back to the senior team, despite Dr. Helmut Marko’s earlier dismissal due to Albon’s long-term contract with Williams. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“They also have Ricciardo and Tsunoda who can be promoted, but Liam Lawson has done very well and deserves a seat in Formula 1,” van der Garde remarked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the speculation about his future swirls, Sergio Perez has firmly quashed the retirement rumours. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He confirmed, “Well, right now I have a contract for next year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
