Formula 2 driver Amaury Cordeel has been slapped with a six-month driving ban, after being caught travelling at 179km\/h in a 50km\/h zone in Belgium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident took place near the Belgian driver’s hometown Temse; however, he was only caught as a result of a clip being uploaded onto popular social media site TikTok.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the 2023 Virtuosi Racing driver having only just been banned from driving for six-months, the offence was actually committed two years ago in December 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The case was only heard at the start of the month, with the decision having been made that Cordeel was both guilty and needed to be banned for six-months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As well as this, the 20-year-old was fined \u20ac3,600, just to cap it all off!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cordeel’s lawyer tried to argue the case, but clearly it was to no avail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere can be no link whatsoever between the video and the fact that my client was driving,” stated Cordeel’s lawyer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was his father\u2019s car, but otherwise there is enough doubt to say that he was not driving.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the F2 driver having lost his licence for six months, some have questioned if racing drivers should require a driving licence, something they don’t currently need to compete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

F2 CEO Bruno Michel does think this is a topic that needs to be discussed with the FIA, with the F2 CEO admitting that the championship must “absolutely” talk to the governing body about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think there anything specific in our regulations that [says] you need to have a driver\u2019s licence,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut that\u2019s probably something that we need to discuss with the FIA as well, and to see how we deal with that. We can\u2019t ignore that fact, for sure. That\u2019s something we will need to absolutely have a word with the FIA and see how we deal with that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
