Ferrari<\/a> team principal Mattia Binotto<\/a> has said he is confident the team will be able to improve their power unit for 2021, as they look to launch a swift recovery for next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Binotto noted that due to the freeze on engine development this season, they won\u2019t be able to improve their power unit in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, he said they are already working on developing it with a view to 2021 and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The engine is frozen for this season, so there’s nothing we can do on that,\u201d Mattia Binotto stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said \u201cit\u2019s progressing well on the dyno at the moment\u201d and added that the team is planning on focussing its development plans on the coming seasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn order to do well in the next seasons, we are going to try to understand the weaknesses of today and make sure we are the best we can be.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ferrari power unit was the strongest in Formula One last year, but it is believed that a couple of FIA<\/a> directives regarding fuel flow and the burning of oils via the intercooler have curbed their advantage and left them with the weakest power package on the grid<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their chassis is also responsible for at least some of their lack of pace this year \u2013 and the SF1000 is certainly no match for the Mercedes W11 or the RB16 in terms of aerodynamic or mechanical grip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
