{"id":12424,"date":"2022-07-13T16:22:00","date_gmt":"2022-07-13T15:22:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/formula1news.co.uk\/?p=12424"},"modified":"2022-07-13T12:28:28","modified_gmt":"2022-07-13T11:28:28","slug":"lando-norris-urges-the-fia-to-take-immediate-action-on-critical-issue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/formula1news.co.uk\/lando-norris-urges-the-fia-to-take-immediate-action-on-critical-issue\/","title":{"rendered":"Lando Norris urges the FIA to take immediate action on &#8216;critical issue&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In his latest column for The Telegraph, Lando Norris has asked for the dreaded sausage\u00a0kerbs\u00a0to finally be removed from Formula 1, following  another huge crash last weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Norris wants the&nbsp;FIA&nbsp;to have the&nbsp;kerbs&nbsp;banned from circuits, after the recent round of the World Endurance Championship at Monza saw Henrique Chaves barrel-roll after going over one of the huge kerbs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thankfully, Chaves walked away from the crash; however, it was yet another reminder to Norris as to why he wants them removed from motorsport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another major incident took place during the British Grand Prix, where during the Formula 2 race Dennis Hauger was launched over the sausage&nbsp;kerb&nbsp;at Vale, before hitting the side of Roy Nissany&#8217;s halo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The halo device all but certainly saved Nissany&#8217;s life, similar to how it saved Sir Lewis Hamilton at Monza last season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/formula1news.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Max-Verstappen-and-Lewis-Hamilton-crash-at-Monza-in-2021.v1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7349\" srcset=\"https:\/\/formula1news.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Max-Verstappen-and-Lewis-Hamilton-crash-at-Monza-in-2021.v1-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/formula1news.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Max-Verstappen-and-Lewis-Hamilton-crash-at-Monza-in-2021.v1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/formula1news.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Max-Verstappen-and-Lewis-Hamilton-crash-at-Monza-in-2021.v1-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/formula1news.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Max-Verstappen-and-Lewis-Hamilton-crash-at-Monza-in-2021.v1-720x480.jpg 720w, https:\/\/formula1news.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Max-Verstappen-and-Lewis-Hamilton-crash-at-Monza-in-2021.v1-480x320.jpg 480w, https:\/\/formula1news.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Max-Verstappen-and-Lewis-Hamilton-crash-at-Monza-in-2021.v1.jpg 1207w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>READ: <a href=\"https:\/\/formula1news.co.uk\/daniel-ricciardo-driving-to-survive-with-alpine-driver-tipped-to-replace-him-at-mclaren\/\">Daniel Ricciardo \u2018driving to survive\u2019 with Alpine driver tipped to replace him at McLaren<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the 2021 Italian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen launched over the sausage&nbsp;kerb&nbsp;at the Variante chicane, before landing on top of Hamilton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Monza was also the venue of one of the biggest crashes in modern motorsport history, when in 2019, Formula 3 driver Alex Peroni flew in the air before landing on the catch-fencing at Parabolica, having run-over a sausage kerb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his column, Norris raised concerns that should a similar incident happen&nbsp;in&nbsp;F1, it could have terrifying consequences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The British driver raised the point that with F1 cars running so low, the impact of running over one could cause life-changing spinal injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI have been critical of raised\u00a0kerbs\u00a0in the past, but I think it is time we acted on these warnings and removed them from our sport,\u201d said the McLaren F1 driver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAgain, thankfully, both drivers were able to walk away from the incident, but we have seen other drivers injured in the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAlex Peroni had a big crash when he hit a sausage\u00a0kerb\u00a0during\u00a0an\u00a0F3 race in support of the F1 race. That ended his season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith Formula 1 cars running lower to the ground than ever, and stiffer than ever, we need to act because when these cars hit these&nbsp;kerbs,&nbsp;you do not ride them. You can be launched into the air. Cars can pop up, do big wheelies&nbsp;and&nbsp;then slam back down again, which can be very painful on the back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cChaves&#8217; crash last weekend is a reminder that we cannot let this drag on.
